HOW TO GET HERE

You can find us in google maps or waze as Rancho Margot Ecolodge and Education Center.

We have 2 international airports. SJO located close to the Capital City San José and LIR located close to the Pacific coast. Both are at a similar distance from Rancho Margot. Drive is about 3.5 hrs.

From SJO Airport (Juan Santamaría Airport), drive on highway 1, exit to San Ramón, follow road 702 all the way to Fortuna, go across town and continue driving towards Tilarán. Turn left on the road to Parque Nacional Volcán Arenal and drive to the end of the road, you will find the entrance to Rancho Margot.

From LIR Airport (Daniel Oduber Airport) drive north east on road 21 until you reach highway 1, drive on highway 1 all the way to Cañas, go across town and take road 142 to Tilaran, continue on road 142 driving around the north side of Lake Arenal, you will drive through Nuevo Arenal town and continue around the Lake, about 3 km after you cross Lake Arenal dam, turn right to Arenal Volcano National Park, you will pass in front of National Park, continue driving on the paved road to El Castillo town and El Fósforo, pavement ends there, the last 2.5 km are gravel road until Rancho Margot.

WARNING: Google Maps, Waze & GPS will probably show you a route on the south side of Lake Arenal. Please avoid taking this route, this is a full 4x4 road, there is a big river with NO bridge, and because of the dense forest there is NO cellphone reception. We do not recommend attempting to cross the river. Road around the north side of the lake (through Nuevo Arenal) is paved and safe.
