FAQs

FEELING LOST? FIND YOURSELF IN THE FOREST

Will there be an Internet connection?

Yes, you can connect in common areas (restaurant, bar and front desk). Be mindful that we’re in the middle of the rainforest, so we’re limited to 3-4 MB.

Are the rooms air-conditioned?

There is no A/C on the ranch, but you won’t need it. Rainforest temps are comfortable year round. In addition to a ceiling fan, rooms have wide doors and windows with screens for extra airflow.

Will I have my own fridge?

As we generate our own energy for the entire ranch, there’s a limit to large appliances we can plug in. For critical uses such as storing medicines, we can provide a space in a fridge with prior notice.

Do I need a mosquito net?

Bungalows have screen doors and windows to keep the pests out. But we also have mosquito nets in storage that can be installed in your room upon request.

Where is the nearest store?

There’s a small convenience store 2.5 km away right at the Arenal Lake entrance. About 3 km away, the town of El Castillo has more convenience stores, a few restaurants, cafes and bars. Downtown La Fortuna is about 28 km and a 40-minute drive.

Do we need a 4x4 car?

Not necessarily as most of the road is paved. The last 2.5 km is a bit rough with gravel, fallen leaves and some holes due to rain. A small car will get you here, just drive slowly and carefully.

Can I book off-site activities through the ranch?

Yes! We’ll happily provide information on local activities and help with reservations.

Can you accommodate vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free diets?

Yes, when informed, our kitchen provides vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options on the menu and takes all the necessary precautions during food prep.

What are my options at the buffet?

Breakfast may include Costa Rican rice and beans, eggs, plantains, French toast, pastries, fruit, granola, yogurt, honey as well as juice, coffee, tea and milk. Lunch and dinner may include: Brick oven pizza, salad bar, bread, rice, grains (beans, lentils, garbanzo), vegetables, pork or chicken, pasta and more. Options vary daily.

When is the restaurant open?

It’s open for lunch from 12-2pm and for dinner from 6-8pm. Most meals are served buffet style. The bar is open from 12-9pm.

Is Bungalow Superior only available for one person?

Yes. A smaller version of the Bungalow Deluxe, the Bungalow Superior is surrounded by tropical gardens and features a private bathroom and terrace. But as it’s only 25 square meters, it’s designed for solo travelers.

What is the cancellation policy?

50% deposit charged to secure booking. Remaining 50% charged 30 days prior to check-in date. Full refund available 30+ days before arrival (minus 10% transaction fees). 75% refund 15-29 days before arrival. 50% refund 1-14 days before arrival. No refunds for no-shows.

Can I bring my pets?

Sorry but no. There are already three dogs on the property and though they are very friendly with guests, they are quite territorial with other animals.

When’s the best time of year to visit?

That’s a tricky one. We have two seasons: dry season from December through May, and rainy season after that through November. Note that due to being surrounded by rainforest and cloud forests, we also have our microclimate, meaning we’ll still have rainy and chilly days during the dry season. It really comes down to what you’re most comfortable with.

What should I pack?

Hiking shoes, rain gear, light, easy-to-dry clothes, a jacket or sweater, pants, hat or baseball cap, long socks, sunglasses, sunscreen, natural insect repellent and a flashlight, preferably solar powered.

What’s included in my stay?

Room rates include 3 daily buffet-style meals, guided ranch tour, self-guided hiking trails, twice-daily yoga classes, Wi-Fi in common areas, natural pool and fishing pond.

What are the room amenities?

You’ll be supplied with towels, extra blankets, artisanal soap, umbrellas, safety box, coffee and tea.

Can I visit just for the day?

We offer a 2-hr Ranch Tour 4 times daily (8:30am, 10:30am, 1:30pm, and 3:30pm). On this guided tour around the property, you’ll see and learn about our projects and practices towards self-sufficiency and sustainability, from organic agriculture and food processing to energy production, carbon neutrality and more. Click here for more information and prices. Reserve a Ranch Tour at info@ranchomargot.org

Can I also take the horse-riding tour, kayak tour and use the pools?

As a small family-owned eco-hotel, we’re only equipped to offer these activities and amenities to our overnight guests at the moment.
