Adventure Tours to Conservation Areas

Arenal Volcano National Park Adventure Tours

  • 3 hour duration
  • Depart Rancho Margot: 9am & 1pm
  • Minimum 2 people
  • $35.00 USD per person

Includes a Rancho Margot guide, park entrance fee and transportation to and from Arenal Volcano National Park.

Arenal Volcano (once known as Cerro Arenal, or Arenal Mountain) was considered dormant until July 1968 when an explosion took the area by surprise. Since then, Arenal Volcano has been an important place for volcanic research in Costa Rica. The 1657 meter, perfectly cone-shaped Arenal Volcano now sits within the Arenal Conservation Area and the 12,016 hectare, Arenal Volcano National Park. In recent months, eruptions and lava flows have slowed, making it the perfect time to explore the national park’s unique geography and myriad species of flora and fauna.

Hiking to Cerro Chato Adventure Tours

  • 5 hour duration
  • Depart Rancho Margot: 9am
  • Minimum 2 people
  • $65.00 USD per person

Includes a Rancho Margot guide, the Observatory Lodge entrance fee and transportation to and from Rancho Margot and a boxed lunch.

Arenal is not the only volcano located within the 12,016 hectare, Arenal Volcano National Park. Cerro Chato (1140 meters), Arenal’s sleeping brother, is a dormant volcano that rewards hikers after an arduous climb with a refreshing lake at its center. This tour begins at the Arenal Observatory Lodge, 30 minutes from Rancho Margot. During this tour you can see a variety of species of flora and fauna, the beautiful San Carlos Valley landscape and Arenal Volcano. You will also have a chance to take a dip at the La Fortuna Waterfall. Transportation will be waiting for you in La Fortuna to bring you back to Rancho Margot.

Horseback Ride to Monteverde Adventure Tours

  • 4 hour duration
  • Depart Rancho Margot: 8am
  • Minimum 2 people
  • $60.00 USD per person (one-way) / $75.00 USD per person (with return via Jeep/Boat/Jeep)

Includes a Rancho Margot guide, return transportation by jeep/boat/jeep (return trip only), a raincoat, helmets and a boxed lunch.

Beginning at Rancho Margot, we will cross over the Bosque Eterno de los Niños (BEN), or Children´s Eternal Forest, to the Hotel Mirador San Gerardo in Santa Elena. We will climb from 575 meters to 1200 meters over the sea, transitioning from rain forest to cloud forest. With a bit of luck you might observe monkeys, white nose coati, snakes, birds, collared peccary, collared anteater, wild cats and more while admiring great views along the way.  Once you reach hotel Mirador San Gerardo, we can coordinate the transfer to downtown Santa Elena by taxi (THIS TRANSFER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PRICE). Or if you prefer, you can continue hiking approximately 5 km more to Santa Elena without the guide.

You will return to Rancho Margot via jeep/boat/jeep, crossing Lake Arenal. Jeeps leave Santa Elena everyday at 2:00pm. You can take the boat the same day after the tour or you can stay overnight in Santa Elena to enjoy the beauty of the place, returning to Rancho Margot in the afternoon. We recommend the following places: Pensión Santa Elena, Hostel Arcoiris and Hotel Belmar. The front desk can arrange the reservation.

Adventure Tours pricing is per person and tours are not included in overnight rates or day tour rates.
