Pools

Among the many amenities at Rancho Margot, perhaps the most popular are the natural pools, built with river rocks and filled with pure, untreated crystalline water from natural springs that cascade from the mountains, the pools of Rancho Margot are a perfect spot to relax. Two spring-fed cold pools, one with a vanishing edge, look to the sky and a towering mountain of primary forest. The adjacent warm pool sits beneath a tree-shaped roof with a tree-trunk sculpture at its center.  This beautiful space invites further connection with the natural environment enveloping the pools. The nearby rush, rush sound of the Caño Negro River and the sound of the cascading water moving from pool to pool provide an exceptional soundscape for optimal relaxation.

Bar & Restaurant

The bar is the center of Rancho Margot’s evening life. Guests gather in wooden booths and saddle up to the well-stocked bar. The cozy atmosphere attracts both guests and local residents, creating an opportunity for great conversation as well as dancing!

Obstacle Course & Multipurpose Field

Play is extremely important to us as it provides space for laughter, humility, team-work and innovation.  The Ranch has many areas dedicated to play and this recreational space adds so much to the community vibe at Rancho Margot. Workers, volunteers and guests often play soccer on a large open field. This space doubles as a helicopter-landing site and emergency meeting point. Kids and adults can challenge themselves on the nearby obstacle course, designed and built by Juan and several volunteers.  Families with smaller children enjoy the playground with swings, slides and a teeter-totter.   We also have a nice collection of sturdy hula hoops, rocking horse and movement play gear for children of all ages.

Toucan Lounge

The Toucan Lounge is just one of several intimate venues around the property that invite you to relax and enjoy. This open-air lounge, well appointed with cushioned wicker love seats and armchairs, invites you to stop and absorb the beauty of our natural environment.

Trails

A variety of trails catering to different abilities and interests wind throughout Rancho Margot’s 400 acres (176 hectares). A steep 15-minute hike leads to The Mirador, or View Point, where you will encounter a spectacular panoramic view of Arenal Volcano, the Guanacaste Mountain Range, Lake Arenal and the Ranch valley below. The well-maintained Phoenix Trail winds through dense tropical forest and commands excellent views of the valley. A flat earthen path follows the banks of a small lake on the property, perfect for meditative walks and bird watching. The concrete paths that loop throughout our botanical garden are also well suited for relaxing strolls and admiring the flora and fauna, including our growing collection of orchids.  Rancho Margot is also a departure point for visitors interested in hiking or riding horseback to Monteverde. Medicinal Gardens

At Rancho Margot, not only do we grow fruits and vegetables, but we also grow our own herbal pharmacy.  In the medicinal garden, you will find culinary herbs such as spearmint and basil, tropical plants including cardamom, ginger, and turmeric, and native rainforest trees like senna, amargo, and firebush.   In recent times, rainforest plants and the indigenous groups that use them have become an important resource for treating the modern ailments we see today.  We strive to learn more about these uses and expand this important garden space with additional health resources as we grow.
